MANGA CHAPTERS GUIDE

A chapter-by-chapter guide to the Rooster Fighter manga — story arcs, key chapters, and where to pick up after the anime.

Overview

The Rooster Fighter manga is serialized weekly in Weekly Shōnen Jump. Chapters are collected into tankōbon volumes, with each volume containing approximately 8–10 chapters.

This guide covers the major story arcs and key chapters, with particular focus on helping anime viewers transition to the manga.

Story Arcs

Arc 1 — The Rooster Emerges (Chapters 1–15)

The opening arc establishing the premise. Rooster defeats the first three kaiju (Bay Crawler, the off-screen Kaiju #2, and Mountain Centipede). Introduces the JSDF's futile attempts to classify and contain him.

Key chapters:

  • Chapter 1: The premise established in full. Bay Crawler. The first Cock-a-Doodle Shockwave.
  • Chapter 5: The JSDF's first official "Rooster Protocol" document — played entirely for comedy.
  • Chapter 12: First use of the Hardened Comb Headbutt.

Arc 2 — Japan Under Siege (Chapters 16–30)

Kaiju frequency increases. Rooster fights across more of Japan. Dr. Yamada appears and begins his documentation. The comedy expands to include institutional reaction to the rooster phenomenon.

Key chapters:

  • Chapter 18: Dr. Yamada's introduction and first briefing.
  • Chapter 22: The Inferno Drake fight — Rooster's flight ability confirmed.
  • Chapter 27: Yamada's Sheet 1 visible for the first time.

Arc 3 — The Shadow Arc (Chapters 31–50)

The tonal shift. Shadow Rooster appears. Episode 7's source chapter (Chapter 31) is here — just three pages in the manga, a quiet moment between kaiju fights. The arc escalates through the Miasma fight, the triple Triarch battle, and the Omega Kaiju finale.

Key chapters:

  • Chapter 31: Hana. Three pages. More impactful per page than almost anything else in the series.
  • Chapter 38: Shadow Rooster's first direct appearance (the reflection from Episode 5 in the manga).
  • Chapter 39–41: The Episode 9 fight, more compressed than the anime version.
  • Chapter 47–50: Omega Kaiju. The shockwave. The islands.

Arc 4 — Beyond Season 1 (Chapters 51+)

Content not covered by the anime. Picks up directly after the Omega Kaiju fight. Shadow Rooster's identity is addressed. New threats emerge. Hana reappears.

Where to start if you've watched the anime: Chapter 51.

Reading Order Recommendations

New reader, no anime: Start at Chapter 1. The premise is self-evident immediately.

Finished the anime, want more: Start at Chapter 51. You don't need to re-read the anime material unless you want the manga's slightly different pacing.

Want to compare manga and anime: Read Chapter 31 (Hana) immediately after watching Episode 7. The difference in length and approach is the clearest example of what each format does differently.
