Overview
Hana is a child — approximately seven years old, from an unnamed rural farming town — who encounters Rooster during his one rest day in Episode 7. She has never heard of him. She just thinks a rooster walking through a rice paddy is interesting.
She follows him for the entire day. She asks him questions. He doesn't answer. She keeps asking.
By the end of the episode, they are sitting on a pier watching the ocean together. She falls asleep beside him. When her parents find her, he's gone.
She is one of the most important characters in the series.
Significance
Hana matters because she asks the questions the story otherwise refuses to engage with. She doesn't know Rooster is a hero. She doesn't care about kaiju. She just sees a rooster sitting alone and has the reasonable human response of wanting to know about him.
Her questions — where are you going, do you have a family, are you scared, do you get lonely — land harder because they're coming from a child who has no tactical reason to ask them. They're just true questions.
His silence answers all of them, in a way.
The Questions (Episode 7)
Hana asks, across the episode:

- "My dad says the rooster on TV fights monsters. Is that you?"

She receives no verbal responses. The animation team provides Rooster's answers through posture, pauses, and one very small movement of his comb on question 7 that has been screenshotted approximately ten thousand times.
The Pier Scene
Four minutes. No music. Ocean light. Two figures. This scene's silence is different from Rooster's battle silence — it's not stoic, it's present. He chose to stay. He could have left at any point in the day.
Season 2
A brief mention in Season 2 promotional materials suggests Hana reappears. No further details without spoilers.
